{"id":83563,"date":"2019-02-25T11:18:31","date_gmt":"2019-02-25T10:18:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=83563"},"modified":"2019-02-25T11:18:31","modified_gmt":"2019-02-25T10:18:31","slug":"beijing-daxing-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/beijing-daxing-airport","title":{"rendered":"Beijing Daxing: preparations are underway for the opening of the world's largest airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This will be the airport event of 2019, an event that is likely to overshadow to some extent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/retard-aeroport-istanbul-20190220.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the opening of the <strong>Istanbul's new airport<\/strong>A few delays<\/a> in its total opening to traffic. The airport of <strong>Beijing Daxing<\/strong> will finally give some breathing space to the current airport of <strong>Beijing Capital<\/strong>the Chinese capital's main air hub. And despite a terminal built for the 2008 Olympic Games, bringing total capacity to 100 million passengers, last year it reached its official limit. Beijing Capital International welcomed <strong>100.98 million passengers<\/strong> in 2018, an increase of 5.4% compared with 2017.<\/p>\n<h3>The world's largest airport<\/h3>\n<p>The Daxing platform has come at just the right time. Located 47 km south of Beijing, Daxing is due to open on 30 September. It will be the world's largest airport in terms of surface area, with a 700,000 m\u00b2 terminal - the equivalent of 80 football stadiums - at the heart of a 47 km\u00b2 airport estate. When it opens, the airport will have a total capacity to handle 72 million passengers, a figure that could be reached by 2025. With four runways, it will be able to handle up to 620,000 flights a year. In the long term, Daxing could handle <strong>up to 200 million passengers a year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite its gigantic size, the hub will be totally efficient for passengers, according to Zhang Ru, spokesman for the construction company developing the airport. Journey times between security checks and the furthest boarding gates on each pier will not exceed eight minutes. For accompanying persons, a platform on the 5th floor of the terminal will offer a bird's-eye view of the entire terminal, enabling passengers to be followed.<\/p>\n<p>Security checks will also be at the cutting edge of technology, using <strong>facial recognition<\/strong> to reduce transit times. Once in the international zone, passengers will find the usual shops and restaurants, work and rest areas, as well as five traditional outdoor Chinese gardens, where they can relax while waiting for their plane.<\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen which airlines will use the future terminal. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAAC) indicated in January that all the airlines in the<strong>alliance Skyteam<\/strong> will meet in Daxing, <strong>Star Alliance<\/strong> remaining with Beijing Capital. Chinese airlines will only be able to be based at a single airport, although international carriers - including those from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan - will be able to use both hubs simultaneously. Daxing will therefore be home to China Eastern, China Southern, Beijing Capital Airlines and China United Airlines. Capital will continue to be the hub for Air China, Hainan Airlines and Grand China Air. As for <strong>Oneworld<\/strong>The alliance has recently announced that it is working to offer a joint business lounge for its members at the new airport. However, Cathay Pacific looks set to remain at Capital. All the international airlines should have completed their transfers by the end of the year. <strong>2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, in terms of public transport, the new airport should be served by the metro as well as a high-speed train.
