Further south, the <strong>Stavros Niarchos Foundation<\/strong>designed by Renzo Piano, is worth escaping from <strong>Syntagma<\/strong> and its austere banks. This new cultural centre, inaugurated in 2016, now houses the national library and the opera, in a superb architectural setting dominated by a vast Mediterranean garden. The largest in the world, it is said. The garden is also ideal for a session of sport or yoga. The <strong>Parthenon<\/strong>The temples, the agora, the ancient theatres and the view over Athens are all well worth a leisurely afternoon. On the way down, the <strong>Acropolis Museum<\/strong> is also well worth a visit, as much for the content of its collection as for its scenography.
