So we met with the London teams and decided to run a joint campaign. We started with a public campaign involving London and Paris to an audience Americanto target millennials. As it worked well, with an increase in the number of people intending to visit, we wanted to supplement this approach with a pane business tourism. These American millennials are potentially business leaders, young entrepreneurs, who could be interested in London and Paris as accessible incentive destination A two- or three-day package, with areas that share common values and offer a variety of attractions for incentive groups.

What are these shared values?

Corinne Menegaux - We have a lot in common when it comes to gastronomy, for example, as London has made great strides in this area. The offer shopping is also a real issue for both destinations, as are culture, heritage and history. There's also culture in the sense of entertainment, an area in which Paris has made progress in catching up with London. We've developed a lot of things in terms of events like musicals, which used to be a bit of an Anglo-Saxon preserve, in cities like New York or London. There's also the luxury London is, like Paris, a city geared towards this upmarket clientele. And finally, there's theinnovation. London was a forerunner, and today Paris has a real specificity in this area. incubation, start-upThe two capitals are keen to develop this activity. The two capitals are keen to develop this activity, which can be very interesting for incentives, particularly for American companies that often operate in technological fields, and which therefore tend to look for cities that correspond to these values. I'm a great believer in this, and I think that company directors want to take their teams to cities that reflect the values of their company, so it makes more sense.

Paris will remain Paris, a world-renowned capital city with an extremely strong appeal. Nothing will be taken away from us, and we can also act as a lever for other regions.

Recently crowned in the ICCA rankingsDoes Paris need to join forces with another capital to promote itself?

Corinne Menegaux - It's not really a question of need, but rather of sharingWe wanted to convey an original message from a different angle. We could have run an original campaign on our own and achieved very good results. It's always interesting to pool resources and join forces. That won't stop us from doing other campaigns on our own in the United States. Just as Paris could have joined forces with another region, including France. I think Paris has a special position. Paris will remain Paris, a world-renowned capital with an extremely strong appeal. Nothing can be taken away from us, and we can also be a lever of attraction for other regions. We must also play this role.

Paris and London have signed an agreement to exploit their synergies through two-in-one incentive packages

Beyond communication, what are the practical applications of this rapprochement?

Corinne Menegaux - For the general public, we relied on a partner who had accommodation options in Paris and London, in this case Marriott. The merger is also based on Eurostar. On the MICE side, the merger is based more on content and shared values, rather than pure booking. But we are planning a joint eductour, probably in the autumn, and we are currently looking at the accommodation side, for which we are targeting a five-star hotel partner.

Could you also coordinate events, or organise a cross-Channel trade fair for example?

Corinne Menegaux - It's possible, and it could be one of the options we look at if it's a real lever for attracting businesses that don't come from just one area. But it's not just London, it could be other destinations.

Do you already have any leads?

Corinne Menegaux - We're currently looking at the French side. It won't happen immediately, probably by 2020. But it would be aimed more at individual visitors. The idea would be to use Paris as a lever to attract visitors to another region, such as Champagne, Normandy, the Côte d'Azur...

let's continue to strengthen the image of our destination, move forward and show that we can be stronger than all that

Is this rapprochement with London intended to protect against the consequences of Brexit?

Corinne Menegaux - It's a coincidence. It wasn't designed for that at all. In fact, we wondered whether we should continue! We had the yellow waistcoats, they had the Brexit... In the end, we all said we had to carry on. We can't stop communicating because of these external factors. On the contrary: let's continue to establish the image of our destination, move forward, and show that we can be stronger than all this.

Was the closeness of the mayors of London and Paris behind this rapprochement?

Corinne Menegaux - Paris is close to a number of cities with which we cooperate regularly. I don't have a lot of experience, as I only arrived recently, but there is a real logic to cooperation, not only in London, but also in New York and elsewhere. We regularly take part in meetings with European destinations such as Amsterdam and Barcelona. There are a lot of subjects on which we exchange ideas, in all seriousness. transparency and with kindness. It's really enriching. Paris is lucky to be in pole position in rankings such as CICAAnd that's fine. But that doesn't mean we have to be arrogant. On the contrary, we need to be sharing. We can always learn from what our little friends are doing!

A few weeks ago, Paris and London decided to join forces in the MICE market to promote the two capitals as combined destinations.
