Visit <strong>China<\/strong>&nbsp;is closely monitoring developments in the former British colony but is reluctant to intervene, fearing for its image as a responsible international power. Since then, acts of violence and demonstrations have become commonplace, taking place every weekend as well as during the week. Strikes also sporadically affected various sectors of activity. The protests affected both the city centre districts in Kowloon and on Hong Kong Island (Central), some outlying districts, as well as public transport and the airport. While the airport has been spared due to a court injunction banning all demonstrations on pain of illegality - and therefore arrest - the train <strong>Airport Express<\/strong> has already been paralysed on several occasions, preventing passengers from reaching the platform.<\/p>\n<h3>General information<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Generally speaking, the government of the Hong Kong Special Region is in constant contact with the Hong Kong government. <strong>consulates<\/strong> and <strong>chambers of commerce<\/strong> to inform them of the situation. On the general <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brandhk.gov.hk\/html\/en\/WhatSOn\/HKUpdate2019.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>SAR (Special Administrative Region)<\/strong><\/a>The main page contains a wealth of information on the general situation and the latest developments in the city.<\/li>\n<li>Le <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/hk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">website <strong>South China Morning Post<\/strong><\/a>Hong Kong's leading daily newspaper, is an excellent source of information on the situation. It regularly publishes analyses and reports on the situation in the city 'live'.<\/li>\n<li>Le<a href=\"https:\/\/hongkong.consulfrance.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> website <strong>Consulate General of France in Hong Kong<\/strong><\/a> offers general advice and recommendations for dealing with the situation in the city.<\/li>\n<li>For travellers wishing to move around the city, the<strong>Hong Kong Tourist Office<\/strong> offers a Live Chat service to get in touch with a representative of the Tourist Office. The service is available daily from 9am to 6pm. Travellers can also find this service on the application <strong>LINE<\/strong> under Hong Kong Travel Buddy. Alternatively, there is a telephone line +852 2508 1234, available at the same times as Live Chat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Transport<\/h3>\n<p>To keep up to date with any road or access closures in the city, the <strong>Transport Department<\/strong> Hong Kong has set up a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.td.gov.hk\/en\/special_news\/spnews.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">website<\/a> which updates traffic information every minute.<\/p>\n<p>An application is also available on smartphones, in Google Play or App Store, under the name <strong>\"HKeMobility<\/strong> and communicates traffic status. In the event of major incidents, messages are automatically disseminated under 'GovHK Notifications'.<\/p>\n<p>Concerning the use of <strong>metro MTR<\/strong>which, on several occasions, has been the scene of violence, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtr.com.hk\/en\/customer\/main\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">company home page<\/a> lists the lines and stations open to the public. However, a court injunction outlaws all demonstrations on the metro and regional trains, but it seems to have had little effect so far.<\/p>\n<p>For the airport, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hongkongairport.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">platform web page<\/a> displays the latest instructions and any events that may affect its operation.
