{"id":90313,"date":"2019-10-22T17:48:24","date_gmt":"2019-10-22T15:48:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=90313"},"modified":"2019-10-22T17:48:24","modified_gmt":"2019-10-22T15:48:24","slug":"berlin-airline-distribution-new-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/berlin-airline-distribution-new-airport","title":{"rendered":"Berlin announces the distribution of airlines at the new airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There were probably smiles in the corridors of the FFB airport authority (<strong>Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg<\/strong>), in charge of managing Berlin's airports. The Airport Supervisory Board has just approved the allocation of airlines to the future complex <strong>BER<\/strong>. The airport will consist of three terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 5. <strong>terminals 1 and 2<\/strong> in fact refer to the <strong>new terminal<\/strong> while the <strong>Terminal 5<\/strong> is the future name for the current terminal of <strong>Berlin Sch\u00f6nefeld<\/strong>located on the other side of the tarmac of the new airport complex.<\/p>\n<p>The 60 or so airlines operating in Berlin will be distributed as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Terminal 1 for incumbent operators and easyJet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most carriers are handled at BER's main T1 terminal. <strong>45 airlines<\/strong> will be based in Terminal 1. These are the main airlines in the European network, such as the airlines of the <strong>Lufthansa Group<\/strong> (Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines) as well as Air China, <strong>Air France<\/strong>Aeroflot, British Airways, Delta Airlines, Finnair, KLM and Turkish Airlines.<\/p>\n<p>Easyjet, which has become Berlin's leading carrier since the demise of Air Berlin, with a market share of around 30 %, will also be based in Terminal 1. The airline will occupy the South Jetty, which has no gangways and was originally designed to accommodate the traffic of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/airberlin-faillite-etihad-lufthansa-20170816.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The late Air Berlin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Terminal T2 for low-cost carriers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Berlin authorities are in a hurry to complete a second terminal, designed to handle <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/croissance-transporteurs-low-cost-20190903.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">low-cost airlines<\/a> <\/strong>and will open its doors at<strong>Autumn 2020<\/strong> at the same time as the platform's inauguration. It will be a simple, modular structure, built to avoid congestion at the new facilities after the inauguration. <strong>ten years late<\/strong>. Ten airlines are expected to attend: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/aerspace-aer-lingus-premium-20190509.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aer Lingus<\/a>Air Baltic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/norwegian-reduit-offre-20190711.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Norwegian<\/a>Vueling, Wizz Air and Lufthansa's low-cost subsidiary, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/eurowings-strategie-long-courrier-20180326.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eurowings<\/a>. The terminal will have a capacity of <strong>six million passengers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In total, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will be able to handle traffic of <strong>28 million passengers<\/strong>This figure is lower than the current traffic levels at Berlin's two airports, which handled more than <strong>34.7 million passengers<\/strong>. Hence the idea of preserving the old <strong>Sch\u00f6nefeld<\/strong>which is expected to remain open to passenger traffic until <strong>2025<\/strong> at least. It can be used to treat <strong>12 million passengers<\/strong>. Ryanair, Berlin's second largest airline in terms of passenger numbers, will be the main tenant. Some 18 other airlines will use the terminal, including charter carriers and major low-cost carriers such as Pegasus Airlines and Pobeda.<\/p>\n<p>In the longer term, the airport will continue to expand to handle <strong>48 million passengers by 2030<\/strong> and <strong>55 million passengers by 2040<\/strong>. One unknown factor remains: the exact opening date of the new terminal.
