While the <strong>Paris City Hall<\/strong> - and <strong>hoteliers<\/strong> - are protesting against the new sponsorship contract signed between <strong>Airbnb<\/strong> and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), it is now the turn of<strong>Uber<\/strong> to incur the wrath of the authorities. A <strong>London<\/strong>the transport authorities (<strong>TfL<\/strong>Transport for London) do not intend to renew the operating licence granted to the VTC platform. The reason: unreliable identification of drivers, resulting in a lack of safety for users. The London authorities explain: \"\u00a0<em>A change to Uber's systems allowed unauthorised drivers to upload their photos to other Uber accounts. This allowed them to pick up passengers as if they were the booked driver, which happened on<strong>at least 14,000 trips<\/strong>putting the safety and security of passengers at risk\u00a0<\/em>\". Drivers who had been dismissed or suspended by Uber, or even without a driving licence, were able to take advantage of these flaws, clearly calling into question the reliability of the booking platform.<\/p>\n<p>For the time being, Uber is still operating on the streets of London, and will appeal against TfL's decision, which it has denounced as \"... a violation of the law\".\u00a0<em>extraordinary and bad\u00a0<\/em>\". \"\u00a0<em>Over the last two years we have fundamentally changed our operations and are setting standards in safety. Only two months ago, TfL considered us a competent operator, and we continue to make progress. On behalf of the 3.5 million drivers and 45,000 licence holders who rely on Uber in London, we will continue to operate as normal and do everything we can to work with them.<\/em>\u00a0\".<\/p>\n<p>The authorities confirm that the appeal has suspensive effect, but assure us that they will remain vigilant with regard to the guarantees to be provided: \" <em>If [its officials] appeal, Uber can continue to operate and we will monitor the company closely to ensure that management has robust controls in place to ensure safety is not compromised<\/em> \"says Helen Chapman, Director of TfL's Licensing and Regulation Division.<\/p>\n<p>Uber has become accustomed to these regulatory twists and turns, which regularly call into question its legitimacy and, above all, its legality. At the beginning of the year, the VTC platform's operations had already been called into question. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/uber-bruxelles-20190104.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">questioned at <strong>Brussels<\/strong><\/a>and more recently, at the beginning of November, the canton of Geneva took steps to ban the use of cars. <strong>Uber<\/strong>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Uber's future in London is under threat.
