It was thirty years<\/strong> and what was then theOrly West<\/strong> hosted flights from Lufthansa<\/strong> to Germany, while Hungarian Malev's planes took off for Budapest from Orly Sud. At the end of the 80s, Lufthansa set up at Roissy, Malev disappeared. From next summer, Lufthansa planes will once again be visible on the tarmac at Orly, while another Hungarian airline, Wizz Air<\/strong>will once again link Orly and Budapest. These are just some of the surprises just announced by Cohor, the Association for the Coordination of Timetables, whose role is to distribute the famous slots,\u00a0<\/strong>these vacant time slots on airports known to be saturated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This was the case this 5 December<\/strong> for 12,335 time slots<\/strong> of fire Aigle Azur<\/strong> at Orly airport. Only 9,868 of these slots have been allocated, the State having decided to pre-empt the maximum 20% of slots available for services subject to Public Service Obligations applying a legal provision relating to the use and reservation of certain slots at Orly airport.Orly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Nearly twenty airlines applied for slots on new routes from the Paris hub. Among the new arrivals, 5,110 slots were allocated to easyJet<\/strong> Airline UK for a daily flight to Glasgow at HOP<\/strong> for two daily flights to Frankfurt<\/a>, \u00e0 Lufthansa<\/strong> for two daily flights to Munich and Wizz Air<\/strong> for a daily flight to Budapest and another to Sofia.<\/p>\n

As non-new arrivals, 4,758 slots were allocated, including 1,460 slots (the equivalent of 2 daily flights) for Air Cara\u00efbes<\/strong> International, which wants to serve Cayenne, New York<\/a>\/Newark, Sao Paulo<\/a> and Saint Martin ; Corsair<\/strong> International with 1,460 slots (with no indication of the destinations to be served), 1,460 slots for Transavia<\/strong> <\/a>(which proposed the Beirut<\/a>Bristol, Krakow, Funchal, Glasgow, Lanzarote, Las Palmas, Liverpool, Manchester and Santiago de Compostela), The Company<\/strong> <\/a>- with 312 slots to New York\/Newark and TAP Air Portugal\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>with 66 slots for seasonal flights in summer.<\/p>\n

Cohor specifies that these services are available for the summer season. However, airlines are free to start their flights during the current 2019-2020 winter season.<\/p>\n

In addition to the surprise of the return of Lufthansa<\/strong>Another new feature will be the arrival of Wizz Air, which up until now has preferred to fly with a single airline. Beauvais<\/strong> for its presence in Paris, and will be making its debut at Orly.<\/p>\n

Le Air France Group<\/strong>through HOP Air France and Transavia is doing rather well with just over 30%<\/strong> of all allocated slots.<\/p>\n

The big loser in the Cohor arbitration - and this is also a surprise - is theAlgeria<\/strong><\/a>. Among the requests from the twenty or so airlines in position, three had asked for flights to Algeria. ASL and Volotea had presented an ambitious programme for the Orly-Algeria routes. ASL wanted to land at Bejaia and Oran, while Volotea envisaged services to Bejaia, Constantine, S\u00e9tif and Tlemcen. Tassili Airlines had also requested a daily flight to Algiers. Neither of these requests was accepted.<\/p>\n

Another major disappointment of this slot distribution: Vueling<\/strong>which had a major expansion plan in the pipeline. From Orly, the airline planned daily flights to Bergamo, Santiago de Compostela and Turin, 6 weekly flights to Munich, 5 weekly flights to Bologna, 4 weekly flights to Gothenburg, Pisa, Warsaw and Zagreb, and 3 weekly flights to Jerez de la Frontera.<\/p>\n

According to the official Cohor press release, \"\u00a0the number of slots distributed for the 2020 summer season alone reached 232,658, i.e. practically the annual volume to which the platform is capped\u00a0<\/em>\". Orly has a ceiling of 250,000 annual take-offs and landings. So there is little chance of other slots becoming available in the immediate future.
