But the next major victim could be... an airline. The Bloomberg agency reported last week that China will be stepping up to the plate to help its airlines. <strong>air transport heavily affected<\/strong> by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/aerien-ferroviaire-coronavirus-covid-19-20200225.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coronavirus crisis<\/a>. The government should exempt airlines from various taxes, but could also inject money into its local airlines. These airlines have lost more than 80 % of their traffic on international routes and have had to park their aircraft, cutting capacity equivalent to 10.4 million passengers from the domestic market.<\/p>\n<p>Above all, internal Chinese sources have told Bloomberg that the government is also working on a solution whereby the three Chinese majors - Air China, China Eastern and China Southern - could take over and operate as one. <strong>integrate smaller carriers<\/strong>. Hainan is China's leading private airline, carrying more than 80 million passengers last year. Its fleet of 233 aircraft flies to 110 destinations worldwide. The carrier serves a dozen cities in Europe, including Paris CDG and Brussels in French-speaking Europe. From Paris, Hainan operates flights to four cities -Chongqing, Guiyang, Shenzhen and Xian. From Brussels, the carrier serves Beijing and Shenzhen.<\/p>\n<p>If the government confirms the takeover of HNA, it should then <strong>dismantle the airline's assets<\/strong> by selling aircraft and traffic rights to the three airline giants, Air China, China Eastern and China Southern. It could also precipitate the liquidation of Hong Kong Airlines, a subsidiary of HNA, which is also in turmoil. Hong Kong Airlines has reduced its in-flight and ground services, eliminating in-flight services, blankets and operating only one premium lounge in Hong Kong. It also made 400 employees redundant last week.
