Enable air transport to take off again<\/a> based on globally harmonised rules. This is the objective of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which has just unveiled its recommendations in the Takeoff\" report<\/strong>The report was drawn up after consultation with a wide range of stakeholders, including the WHO, Airports Council International (ACI) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).<\/p>\n

With air transport timidly picking up again, IATA is calling on the authorities to rapidly implement the guidelines defined by the ICAO. \" We are counting on governments to implement these recommendations quickly<\/strong>because people still want to travel and airlines have a role to play in the economic recovery.<\/em> \"said Alexandre de Juniac, IATA's Director General.<\/p>\n

If airports and airlines follow ICAO guidelines, the business traveller<\/a> should see its widely modified habits<\/strong>It's a journey marked out by a multitude of constraints before you reach your destination. Starting with monitoring your state of health via a temperature measurement<\/strong> and the presentation at borders of health declaration forms, including pre-flight and post-flight self-declarations. As part of this, larger quantities of liquids for medical use could also be authorised at security checks. Other measures will become the norm in all aircraft and airports worldwide, starting with the wearing a mask<\/strong> by passengers and staff.<\/p>\n

To limit contact and manage passenger flows, the technology should be used to a prominent place<\/strong> at every stage of the journey, and even before arriving at the airport. Passengers are encouraged to check in online and tag their baggage before arriving at the airport.<\/p>\n

Check-in and baggage drop-off kiosks, self-scanning, biometrics: procedures involving the presentation of boarding passes and other travel documents should be carried out as often as possible. without physical contact<\/strong>. In addition, \"\u00a0if it proves necessary to identify a person wearing a mask against an identity document, the mask may be removed if physical removal measures are complied with<\/em>\u00a0\"says the report.<\/p>\n

While the ICAO encourages social distancing within hubs through appropriate signage, it does not advocate the neutralisation of every other seat, as the industry would like. The report refers to the introduction of \" appropriate risk-based measures when distancing is not possible<\/strong>e, for example in the cabins.<\/em> \"However, airlines are encouraged to provide separate seats where occupancy levels allow.<\/p>\n

Airlines are encouraged to review the entire boarding process to avoid passengers crossing paths. On board, passengers are invited to travel light<\/strong> by checking in all their baggage, with the exception of small hand baggage which can be slipped under the seat, in order to limit the use of overhead bins and facilitate the boarding process. Cabin movements will be limited and access to toilets restricted. Food and beverages will be banned on short-haul flights or distributed in sealed, pre-packaged containers on medium- and long-haul flights.<\/p>\n

On arrival, as the baggage reclaim area is very busy, the use of baggage carousels should be maximised in order to limit passenger congestion. Baggage carts, toilets and other facilities will be disinfected more frequently. To avoid this influx, the baggage delivery<\/strong> directly at the hotel or at home will also be encouraged.
