\"After thirty years of travelling, the destination that has made the biggest impression on me is New Zealand. I discovered it in 2000, I was there for the turn of the century... to photograph the America's Cup too! I spent a month there and discovered that this place was nothing like the Australia I already knew. When you love nature and photograph it in all its dimensions, as I do, New Zealand is the greatest gift of all. The people are fabulous too. One day, a Kiwi (that's the nickname given to New Zealanders) to whom I confided that I really felt at home in his country replied: \"That's normal, we're like you French, we love food, wine and women! I loved this simple answer.<\/p>\n
When I'm travelling, I simply love to go from one discovery to the next: the streets, the smells, the sounds, the faces, the colours, the light, the landscapes... I walk for hours and hours. Discovering is an active, voluntary act... and one that I prepare for: I organise myself according to the weather. So, no matter where I am in the world, the weather and I never leave each other's side: on my mobile phone, I can consult four different weather websites! I've also always got the seventh wonder of the world in my pocket: here it is... (He points with a twinkle in his eye to a small, seemingly innocuous camera) It's an exceptional tool: a Canon G9... So you can understand that wherever I go, I need a few power sockets to recharge my equipment. A shower as well, and that's fine with me...<\/p>\n
When I go on assignment, it's my assistant, Christophe, who takes care of everything: the meetings, the helicopter shots, the boat shots... I let myself be led without any apprehension. Sometimes I even find out about the programme on the plane. Which is not to say that I lose interest: travelling is vital for me, and for six to eight months of the year I'm somewhere else. I travel to photograph and I photograph to travel. I can't and don't know how to do anything else. I haven't had any other life for thirty years... I always need to have travel projects in mind for the very short, medium and long term. Unfortunately, even though as I get older I give myself more and more time, where I go I'm often just a passer-by...<\/p>\n
I love being a passenger on a plane! During the flight, I read and sleep, while managing my sleep. I have to arrive in good shape to work. It's not easy, because the comfort isn't always up to my expectations... And then, I'm like everyone else, I'm afraid to take certain airlines these days... I'm lucky enough to have an international air transport inspector among my friends, so when in doubt, I give him a call! For me, the most magical moment on a plane has always been when the purser closes the door: she waits for the 'ok' from the technical manager on the bridge, then bends down, grabs the door... and suddenly the noise is no longer the same.
