In recent days, there has been renewed activity in Australia<\/strong> with an upsurge in cases of COVID 19. From 7,461 cases of infection on 21 June - a relatively low figure all things considered - the number of people infected passed the 8,000 mark on 2 July, reaching 8,755 by the evening of 7 July. In the space of 24 hours, according to figures from the Department of Health, which is monitoring the development of the pandemic in the country, Australia recorded 199 new cases, 191 of them in Australia alone. State of Victoria<\/strong>. New South Wales is the second most populous state, with Melbourne<\/strong> as the regional capital. The closure of the internal borders between the two states is leading to a wave of flight cancellations. Qantas has issued an official statement saying that it will only be offeringa handful of daily flights<\/strong> for essential travel only<\/strong>. The new timetable, which temporarily offers two to three flights a day, will be in force until the end of July.<\/p>\n

This is very bad news for Qantas<\/strong> which, since the COVID-19 epidemic, has been forced to live in virtual autarky, relying solely on its domestic routes. In July, the Australian national carrier planned to offer 40% of its flight capacity on domestic routes, compared with 15% in June.<\/p>\n

Redeployment on the domestic network is a necessity, at a time when the Australian government is keeping its international borders closed, having already announced that it has no plans to the country will not be fully reopened to international tourists before 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Alan Joyce, CEO of Qantas, has indicated that the carrier is not expected to resume international flights until probably mid-2021. Australia-New Zealand routes generate more than five million passengers a year<\/strong>. Once this bubble has been activated, probably in September, Qantas could also envisage the return of services between the two countries in the fourth quarter. Singapore<\/strong> <\/a>and Australia. The Asian hub is in fact a major hub for Europe and the rest of Asia, and is perceived as a \"hub of excellence\". one of the safest health destinations in the world<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The disappearance of Qantas's international business is also putting off for a better day the Sunrise\" project<\/strong> of the company. As a result, the pandemic has put the future operation of a London-Sydney line<\/strong>Qantas operated the only non-stop service between Australia and Europe on London Heathrow-Perth before the crisis.
