{"id":97959,"date":"2020-07-17T13:09:27","date_gmt":"2020-07-17T11:09:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=97959"},"modified":"2020-07-17T13:10:02","modified_gmt":"2020-07-17T11:10:02","slug":"interview-cedric-renard-emirates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/interview-cedric-renard-emirates","title":{"rendered":"Interview with : C\u00e9dric Renard, Managing Director of Emirates France"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>How do you feel about the A380 landing again in Paris?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>C\u00e9dric Renard -<\/strong> It's a very strong feeling, with genuine emotion running across the faces of all these aviation enthusiasts. We wanted to mark this special event, because it represents Emirates' strong commitment to the recovery. More generally, Emirates is sending out a clear message, since <strong>Paris<\/strong> is one of the <strong>two ports of call<\/strong> with <strong>London<\/strong> on which the A380 returns to land, and we will also be serving <strong>Amsterdam<\/strong>. It's a message to Airbus, and to France, a market in which Emirates is investing heavily. It's a sign that we believe in the recovery: we're increasing to two daily flights with the A380 and the 777, Dubai reopened to tourists and business travellers a few days ago, which was an important sign, and at the same time the Emirates network is growing. We are now at <strong>55 destinations<\/strong>We are increasing frequency and capacity. The recovery is taking place step by step, in an organised fashion.<\/p>\n<h3>In fact, the return of the A380 does not really mark the return of Emirates, which had resumed service to Paris...<\/h3>\n<p><strong>C\u00e9dric Renard - <\/strong>We reopened at the end of May, starting with three weekly flights. We quickly increased to four and then five flights, and on 1 July we switched back to daily service, and since 15 July to twice-daily. But Emirates has continued to operate flights throughout the crisis, particularly in the cargo business, whether in Paris, Lyon or Nice. We have also organised charter flights to transport medical equipment.<\/p>\n<h3>Weren't you tempted by a lower-capacity aircraft during this recovery phase?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>C\u00e9dric Renard -<\/strong> We still have a few years to fly this beautiful aircraft, the A380. Some airlines have already decided to abandon it, but it creates a lot of passion and emotion. It's a very popular aircraft, with a particular choice of configuration at Emirates. The French and Europeans are very attached to this aircraft, which has made them dream. The Emirates fleet comprises 142 Boeing 777s and 115 Airbus A380s. It's an emblematic aircraft, part of the Emirates trademark, and we're delighted to be repositioning it at CDG.<\/p>\n<h3>What are the occupancy rates? Is there already a demand for such capacity?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>C\u00e9dric Renard - <\/strong>We want to support the recovery in demand and send out a strong message of confidence, showing that Emirates is back. Load factors <span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; color: #222222;\">are good, above 50% and growing. We have an interesting balance between First, Business and Economy class customers. We also see a lot of last-minute requests, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/dubai-a380-emirates-retour-20200624.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>reopening of Dubai<\/strong> <\/a>is of course an accelerator for us, enabling us to take a new step forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>How has the crisis affected the configuration of this A380 in Paris?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>C\u00e9dric Renard - <\/strong>This is the classic configuration, and we have supplemented our \"Fly Better\" brand signature with \"Fly Safer\", a whole range of health measures. For example, all our crews are equipped with personal protective equipment, there is service assistance in the cabin for all flights over 1h30, to ensure that everything is properly monitored, the service has been adapted, and we offer a hygiene kit to all our passengers. This is vital today: we have confidence in the recovery, but for our customers to want to travel, it has to be done in optimum conditions. We also need to show that there are no risks involved in travelling to Dubai. The destination reopened on 7 July, and everything has been put in place to ensure that travellers feel safe, with tests both before and on arrival in Dubai. Emirates has truly taken the measure of the situation.<\/p>\n<h3>Emirates sealed the future of the A380 a few months ago, and is now the only airline using it in Paris: isn't that a bit ironic?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>C\u00e9dric Renard - <\/strong>I don't see it that way. The Emirates fleet now comprises 257 long-haul aircraft, and Emirates has accounted for more than 50% of the A380 order book. The fleet is evolving, and an order for 50 Airbus A350s was made official last November at the Dubai Air Show, for a total of 16 billion...<\/p>\n<h3>How far have you got with the resumption of premium services?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>C\u00e9dric Renard - <\/strong>The chauffeur service, offered free of charge to Business and First Class passengers, is back in operation, including in Paris, with all the necessary health precautions. We have also reopened the lounge in Dubai, but not yet in Paris.<\/p>\n<h3>Aren't you worried that passengers will be more wary of flights with stopovers than in the past?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>C\u00e9dric Renard - <\/strong>There have always been direct and indirect flights and Emirates has always been able to attract a wide range of customers, whether in Economy, Business or First class. We can also count on a wider variety of customers than many airlines, with tourists, high-contribution leisure customers, business customers... Dubai is also a destination in its own right, which attracts many French people. In 2018, nearly 350,000 French people visited Dubai, an increase of 17% on the previous year. There is also the prospect of the<strong>Universal Exhibition<\/strong> which has been pushed back to 2021. And Emirates has a very balanced network in Africa, the Asia-Pacific region and the United States, so we're confident about these assets. And the 'Fly Better' brand signature is really proving itself, and is much appreciated by our customers in all classes. Emirates has been profitable for 32 consecutive years. Unfortunately, like all airlines, we are taking steps to adapt. But we are perhaps among the first to want to get back on our feet, and that is what we are doing today at Paris CDG.<\/p>\n<h3>Will the crisis force you to rethink your strategy in France over the long term?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>C\u00e9dric Renard - <\/strong>With its schedule departing from Paris, Nice and Lyon, Emirates had found its clientele before the crisis. These customers still exist. It's up to us to instil confidence, to recreate the conditions for these customers to travel with pleasure, whether for tourism or business. It's our responsibility as an airline to ensure that passengers feel confident when they get back on a plane, and even more so when they board an Emirates aircraft. But the roadmap in France is the same: three daily flights from Paris, one from Nice and one from Lyon. The relaunch of flights from <strong>Lyon<\/strong> and <strong>Nice<\/strong> is scheduled for the summer. We are obviously keeping a close eye on sanitary conditions, government authorisations and the level of demand. Emirates has long been investing in France, not only in Paris but also in the provinces, in Lyon and Nice.<\/p>\n<h3>What's the status of the new premium class project?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>C\u00e9dric Renard - <\/strong>Unfortunately, I don't have any scoops to announce. I can confirm that we will be installing a fourth cabin on board our aircraft, but I haven't yet seen the destinations, the types of aircraft, the configurations... So I can't say any more. Emirates brings together a wide range of travellers, and the economy class is already very popular, and is often compared to the intermediate classes of other airlines, because of the facilities and the service on board. So I'm sure that we'll be able to offer a service that's unique on the market, which will provide an additional selling point for the Emirates France teams.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 15 July, Emirates relaunched its Airbus A380 at Paris CDG airport.
