Mark Hoplamazian, CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/hyatt-renforce-asie-20190826.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hyatt<\/a>praised the Chinese government's handling of the covid-19 pandemic during an online conference with investors.<\/p>\n<p>\"\u00a0<strong>China is a perfect example of how travel can be resumed even without pharmaceutical treatment or vaccines, provided that appropriate and well-coordinated measures are taken.<\/strong> to significantly reduce the spread of the virus\", said Hyatt's CEO earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>An analysis that should please the travel industry, many of whose experts believe that only the discovery of a vaccine and its widespread distribution will enable the sector to recover.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #a71f31\">Chinese model<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Hyatt is therefore relying on the group's performance. According to Mark Hoplamazian, <strong>the average occupancy rate for all Hyatt brands in Greater China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) reached 55%<\/strong> according to the first data for July. If we look at mainland China alone, this rate would even have reached 64%. Some regions of the country, notably in the east, west and south, have returned to their July 2019 occupancy rates. This recovery is all the more remarkable given that the average occupancy rate for the Group's hotels had fallen to an all-time low of 7% in February.<\/p>\n<p>China now tops the world rankings for hotel performance. The upturn in business travel in the country is another encouraging sign. According to preliminary figures for July, business travel accounted for 25% of all bookings. Hyatt was able to organise product launches for BMW, Volvo and Gucci at its Chinese hotels in July.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next few months, bookings for business reasons will once again outstrip those for leisure.<\/p>\n<p>\"\u00a0<strong>We believe that the worst is behind us, and we see positive signs developing around the world.<\/strong>\" said Mark Hoplamazian.<\/p>\n<p>Hyatt's CEO believes that this success is due to the very strict confinement put in place by Beijing at the end of January, with the suspension of travel and the quarantine of the entire country.<\/p>\n<p>This analysis is also echoed by the World Health Organisation. The latter has admonished countries for decontaminating too quickly, in particular by authorising the resumption of travel. For the WHO, travel continues to represent a very significant risk of the virus spreading.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #a71f31\">Business travel to resume with a vaccine<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In his vision of the future, Hyatt's CEO seems more cautious about the recovery in demand for business travel around the world - and particularly in the United States.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There is a risk that business travel will continue to be heavily dependent on the discovery of a vaccine.<\/strong>. \"We are convinced that the paralysis in business travel caused by the pandemic will be significantly reduced as cases of covid-19 are brought under control and treatments or vaccines become available\", explained Mark Hoplamazian during this video conference.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hyatt announced a loss of 236 million dollars for the second quarter. <\/strong>This represents a fall of 376 % compared with the same period in 2019. Revenue per available room fell by almost 90 %. This poor performance is not stopping Hyatt from resuming its growth. By the end of 2020, the company will have increased its portfolio of rooms by more than 4 %.
