{"id":99509,"date":"2020-09-24T17:26:48","date_gmt":"2020-09-24T15:26:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/?p=99509"},"modified":"2021-02-21T18:04:50","modified_gmt":"2021-02-21T17:04:50","slug":"interview-rozen-mice-warsaw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/interview-rozen-mice-warsaw","title":{"rendered":"Interview : Pawel Rozen, Meetings Director, Warsaw Tourism Organisation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #a71f31\">What are the expectations for tourist arrivals this year, both for Poland and Warsaw?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Pawel Rozen -<\/strong> According to the latest reports, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voyages-d-affaires.com\/en\/hongrie-pologne-fermeture-frontieres-20200901.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Poland<\/a> welcomed 21.16 million international tourists in 2019. In Warsaw alone, this figure reached three million. L<strong>nternational tourists accounted for almost 28 % of the total number of tourists to the capital<\/strong>. Statistics show that in the first and second quarters of 2020,<strong> accommodation recorded a fall of 92.8 % compared with 2019<\/strong>. However, it is extremely difficult to forecast a precise number of tourist arrivals this year. The reopening of borders and the resumption of certain international flights since July 1 have led to a slight increase in passenger arrivals this summer. But since September, the government has again banned flights to 40 countries, including France.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #a71f31\">How will business tourism and MICE develop?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Pawel Rozen -<\/strong> An analysis prepared by Tourism Economics\/Oxford Economics, based on data from the Poland Convention Bureau, shows that <strong>24,400 conventions and events<\/strong> were organised in 2019. <strong>This represented 8 million MICE and business visitors, including 4.78 million from abroad.<\/strong>. The Polish congress market generated \u20ac1.9 billion in visitor spending in 2019. Depending on the experts' optimistic or pessimistic forecasts, business tourism will fall by between 32 % and 76 % in 2020. This is equivalent to a drop of between three and six million business visitors compared with last year.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #a71f31\">Do you see a recovery, however slight?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Pawel Rozen<\/strong> - The recovery is partial, and essentially domestic. The government has offered tourism vouchers to Polish families whose purchasing power has suffered as a result of the pandemic. This subsidy has indirectly helped the tourist industry. The recovery will be slower for business travel, particularly international. <strong>According to forecasts, visitor numbers and spending should return to pre-crisis levels by 2022. <\/strong>This is based on an optimistic scenario. In a pessimistic scenario, if the short-term fall in event attendance were to accelerate, this would mean a complete recovery in business tourism by 2023.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #a71f31\">What support or financial incentives are available in Poland and Warsaw for companies wishing to organise an event?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Pawel Rozen<\/strong> - One of the objectives of the Warsaw Convention Bureau is always to attract major conferences, trade fairs and congresses to our capital. To achieve this, we support meeting organisers who are considering coming to Warsaw for their events. Working in synergy with public and private partners, we assess each request individually. The decision on the extent of this support depends on a series of factors. We take into account the resources of the Convention Bureau and its partners. Or we analyse the economic spin-offs, the importance of the content or the image of the event. The terms and conditions of our offer can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/wot.waw.pl\/download\/8689\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">office website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #a71f31\">How do you work with hotels to attract business travellers?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Pawel Rozen -<\/strong> We are working with hotels to develop a joint offer for international meeting providers. Our aim is to offer safe, low-risk and flexible conditions that encourage business travellers to visit Warsaw. We guarantee that our hotels meet health and safety standards and offer a flexible reservation\/cancellation policy. In addition, we offer free site inspections.<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse;width: 100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%\">\n<h2>A hygiene certificate for Polish companies in the MICE sector<\/h2>\n<p>On 16 September last, at a conference of congress and convention bureaus, Poland introduced <strong>a certification label.<\/strong> The logo ensures hygiene standards in hotels and venues dedicated to MICE. The adoption of a logo should generate trust between event planners and organisers.<\/p>\n<p>\"\u00a0<em>We know that the safety of tourists, business travellers and the general public is of paramount importance.<\/em><em>el of meeting venues is essential. We have therefore joined forces to develop two self-certification programmes. Trust is fundamental in the tourism and meetings sector<\/em>\" explained Robert Andrzejczyk, President of the Polish Tourism Organisation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pot.gov.pl\/images\/PCB\/Newsy\/2020\/09\/BezpObMiceEN.jpg\" alt=\"BezpObMiceEN.jpg\" width=\"408\" height=\"156\" \/><br \/>\nThe \"safe meeting spaces\" programme was launched at the beginning of June and includes <strong>over 1,300 meeting venues<\/strong>. In mid-September, the Polish Tourist Organisation and the Polish Congress Bureau added the \"Safe MICE venue\" programme. It provides business travellers, participants in meetings and events and professional congress organisers with access to information on venues that comply with the regulations of the Health Inspectorate and the Ministry of Development.<\/p>\n<p>The focus at the moment is on hybrid and national events, with strict requirements in terms of hygiene standards and social distance. \"\u00a0<em>I'm convinced that the programme will create a positive and safe image for MICE in Poland. The possibility of using a certificate from the authorities undoubtedly enhances the credibility of our offers among event planners and organisers.<\/em>\" said Paula Fanderowska, President of the Polish Association of Conferences and Congresses.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With nearly 25,000 MICE events and spending approaching two billion euros in 2019, the conference and events industry in Poland is a major economic sector.
