The oneworld global airline alliance is preparing to welcome a new member, Alaska Airlines, on 31 March. The carrier will be the second North American airline in the group with American Airlines and the 15th oneworld member.
The integration of the carrier has been postponed by a few months. It was originally scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year. The covid pandemic partly explains this delay. But the airline also mentions on its blog that its reservation and passenger processing systems are being adapted to Oneworld standards.
Alaska Airlines had already signed an in-depth partnership agreement with American Airlines at the beginning of the year, giving the two carriers a privileged position on the West Coast of the United States.
American has thus become a Global Partner of Alaska, as are British Airways, Japan Airlines and Qantas. The airline also allows passengers to earn miles with certain oneworld members, such as Cathay Pacific and Finnair.
Alaska Airlines and its regional partners fly to 115 destinations in the United States and North America. The company's main hubs are in Seattle; San Francisco; Los Angeles; Portland (Oregon) and Anchorage.
