Hyatt is continuing its growth in sub-Saharan Africa with the announced takeover of the former Hilton Cape Town City Center. Renamed Hyatt Regency Cape Town, the establishment is due to open in December 2020 and will offer 137 rooms, including 15 suites, three bars and restaurants, a fitness centre and an outdoor swimming pool, in addition to 400 m2 of meeting space and a VIP lounge. "Install a Hyatt hotel in Cape Town has been a priority for us, and we believe there is significant growth potential in South Africa."said Ludwig Bouldoukian, Regional Vice President of Development for the Middle East and Africa at Hyatt.
This opening, located at the foot of the emblematic Table Mountainon the edge of the historic Bo-Kaap district, will bring the total number of Hyatt branches to eight in Africa. The Hyatt Regency business brand will appear in Nairobi and Lagos over the next three years, after setting up in Johannesburg, Dar es Salaam and Addis Ababa.
In parallel with this development in Africa, Hyatt expands its offering in Europeparticularly in Portugal, with the planned opening of a Hyatt Regency at Lisbon in 2022 and the announcement of an Andaz hotel expected in the Portuguese capital by 2024. The American group's luxury and lifestyle brand will set up in the heart of the lively Baix districta, along Rua Augusta, in the former offices of one of the country's leading banks, Banco Português de Investimento (BPI), whose transformation was entrusted to architects Andreas Möschel and Pedro Reis and Bastir Interior Design.
While four other satellite buildings will house a number of private suites, the hotel's central building will offer 169 rooms. There will also be a rooftop bar and restaurant, a spa-fitness centre and Andaz Studio spaces for business meetings and events. Lisbon will be the sixth Andaz in Europe, after Munich, Vienna, LondonAmsterdam and, from 2022, Prague.
