New hotels expected in 2021 in France and Northern Europe

In France, the UK and Switzerland, the pandemic is not slowing down the development of new lifestyle hotels or future palaces. Here is a non-exhaustive overview of the openings expected this year.

Lifestyle, luxury and design: a look at the new hotels opening this year in France and Northern Europe.

France :

In Paris, New hotel brands will be launched in 2021:

- The lifestyle and top-of-the-range brand Kimptonwill make its debut in the second quarter near the Opéra with the Kimpton St HonoréIt is housed in a building with Art Nouveau and Art Deco facades revisited by designer Charles Zana.

- For Hilton, the Tapestry CollectionThe Belgrand Hotel Paris Champs Elysees, a group of independent upmarket hotels, will open its first member in France in February.

For the major hotel groups, the major event will be the reopening in May of the Pullman Montparnasseplanned last year but postponed due to the pandemic. The Parisian offer will be expanded at the same time independent hotels with character such as the Hôtel du Sentier, located in the Passage du Caire, which has just opened and offers 30 rooms, or Maison Mère, in the 9th arrondissement, an arty, festive venue with 51 rooms.

But the most eagerly awaited openings will undoubtedly be in the luxury hotel sector, with the future Cheval Blancwhich is part of the metamorphosis of the Samaritaine led by the LVMH group, and the arrival of the brand Bulgari on Avenue George V, with a hotel featuring 76 rooms, most of them suites. Also in the Paris region, the Château de Versailles will see the opening of l'Airelles Le Grand Contrôle and its 14 ultra VIP flats.

In a more business-like style, the business district of Defence will continue to develop its lifestyle hotels with the arrival of a Mama Shelter in the fourth quarter, with a 211-room hotel-restaurant.

Among the openings announced in the provincesincluding those of the Radisson Blu Rouen and Malo-Les-Bains or the Okko Hotels in Lille in April and Nice in mid-June, pending the completion of La Défense, scheduled for 2022.

As for Accor, the leading French hotel group, it continues the expansion of its new brands. So the economic and sustainable greet is expected near Bordeaux Airport and at Pacé, near Rennes, while TribeJo&Joe, which operates in the mid-range lifestyle segment, will be opening new hotels in Carcassonne and Le Touquet. Jo&Joe, which is revisiting the youth hostel concept in a contemporary way, will be setting up in Paris, in an up-and-coming district, with the Jo&Joe Buzenval.

The Group's historic brands have not been forgotten in this development, with Ibis expected at Montpellier airportThere is also the Mercure Peyragudes Loudenvielle Pyrénées and the Novotel Megève Mont Blanc, just a stone's throw from the Mont d'Arbois slopes, and the Novotel Annemasse Genève, with its rooftop bar-restaurant overlooking the Alps and Jura.

United Kingdom/Ireland :

In Londonthe development of lifestyle hotels is as strong as ever. Following the opening of a Nobu hotel in December, other trendy establishments are expected to open in 2021, including :
- the return of the brand Mondrian, of the Accor groupin the British capital's Shoreditch district.
- the debut in February, in the Covent Garden district, of the NoMad London, the first outgrowth on the other side of the Atlantic of this successful brand in the United States.
- the opening in April, in Leicester Square, of the Londonerwhich bills itself as the world's first 'super boutique hotel'.

- last but not least, in glam and rock'n'roll style, the Chateau Denmark will open this summer, with 55 rooms celebrating the heyday of Denmark Street, famous for its record labels and recording studios that have seen the likes of the Sex Pistols, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie.

Other developments expected in the British capital include the inauguration in the third quarter of the first Westin in the UKwith a 222-bedroom establishment on the banks of the Thames, but also that of the Hyatt Place London City Eastdue in May. Also in the East End, the Canopy by Hilton will open in June near Tower Bridge and Spitalfields Market, while the Radisson Group will open the Radisson RED London Greenwich earlier this year.

In other British citiesContemporary and design hotels will also be in the spotlight, with a Hyatt Centric due to open in Cambridge in May, while at the end of the year it will be a Hyatt Centric in Paris. MoxyThe Hilton Garden Inn, part of the Marriott group, will open in the heart of Manchester, in the Spinningfields district. For Formula 1 fans, note the opening in July of a Hilton Garden Inn at the heart of the Silverstone circuit, with uninterrupted views of the track.

Luxurythe brand Fairmont will strengthen its offering with two new hotels, in addition to the Savoy in London and the Fairmont Saint Andrews in Scotland: a retreat dedicated to health and well-being near Windsor and a historic estate in Ireland, Carton House, with its own golf course and proximity to Dublin.

Switzerland :

Switzerland to open a new luxury hotel in GenevaThe Woodward. Tenth establishment in the prestigious Oetker Collection, this intimate hotel designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon will offer 26 suites. Also in 2021, Mandarin Oriental will take over the management of the historic Hotel Palace in Lucerne, following the renovation of its 146 rooms.

Business sideSeveral hotels with a strong MICE component are on the programme for 2021, notably in Bern with the Swissôtel Kursaal, linked to a congress centre and casino. In Zurich, the Hyatt Group is part of the development of The Circle complex. The Hyatt Regency Zurich Airport The Circle will open at the beginning of January, followed by the Hyatt Place Zurich Airport The Circle at the end of April.
