New hotels expected in 2021 in Southern Europe

Italy, Spain and Portugal: these three southern European countries will see the emergence of new top-of-the-range lifestyle hotels at affordable prices.

Lifestyle, luxury and design: a look at the new hotels opening this year in Italy and the Iberian Peninsula.

Spain:

In Madridthe Atocha Hotel will become part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton in March, following the renovation of its rooms. In May, the Spanish capital will see the opening of EDITION, a contemporary luxury brand developed by Marriott and Ian Schrager, with a 200-room hotel offering a first-class culinary and festive experience, and 2,000 m2 dedicated to bars and restaurants.

In Barcelonain May, the ME design brand from the Spanish Melia group will be opening in the Catalan city for the first time. Located on the Paseo de Gracia, the hotel will feature a spectacular rooftop with swimming pool.

The Spanish hotel offer will also be enriched by beautiful resorts in 2021, notably in the Balearic Islands with the Six Senses in Ibiza, the Riomar boutique hotel (Tribute Portfolio) also in Ibiza, and the Kimpton Majorca. On the Costa del Sol, the Sotogrande Resort & Spa, renovated for the occasion, will join the family of SO/ hotels, the contemporary version of Sofitel.

Portugal :

Lisbon In 2021, two of the leading brands in the budget lifestyle hotel sector will open their doors. In the first quarter, a Moxy will open its doors not far from Avenida de Liberdade and Parc Edouard VII, with a 136-room establishment crowned by a rooftop with swimming pool. For its part, Mama Shelter will be heading for the Portuguese capital in the fourth quarter with a 130-room establishment.

In keeping with the design and lifestyle trend, but with a focus on leisure, the second quarter will see the opening of a resort brand in the Algarve, with 134 rooms and 23 suites, all with direct access to the beach.

Italy:

While W is strengthening its resort offering in Portugal, it is also expanding its urban offering in Italy, where it is expected to be present in Rome in the second quarter, near Via Condotti. While the Italian capital, like Lisbon, will see the opening of a Mama Shelter in mid-May, it is above all its luxury offering that is about to see several landmark inaugurations. At the end of the year, InterContinental will be adding the Ambasciatori Palace to its range, following the renovation of this 160-room hotel on Via Veneto, which was originally the residence of ambassadors staying in Rome in the 1900s.

The IHG Group will also see its Six Senses resort brand continue its urban expansion with a 95-room and suite hotel housed in an 18th-century baroque palace close to the Trevi Fountain. The programme includes a spa, a restaurant, a terrace for events, an outdoor courtyard with garden and a roof terrace with a 360° view of the city.

Still in ItalyAccor will be offering two new hotels: a 25 Hours in Florence and an MGallery in Pompeii with views of the ancient ruins from the roof of the 19th-century villa that houses it.
