As well as announcing the introduction of a curfew from 6pm Throughout France, in order to avoid further confinement as far as possible, Prime Minister Jean Castex has announced reinforced border control measures.
From Monday 18 January, all travellers arriving from outside the European Union will have to present a negative PCR test carried out 72 hours before departure to enter France. In addition, they will have to give a sworn undertaking to isolate themselves for seven days before undergoing a new PCR test.
With regard to arrivals from EU countries, the ministers will be working on a coordination framework between now and the European Council meeting on 21 January, which will include exceptions for cross-border workers.
The tougher measures also apply to the French overseas departments, to protect against the circulation of high-risk variants. Tests will now be compulsory both before departure for these destinations and on return to France, which was not the case until now.
