Travellers to Dubai are now required to present the negative results of a PCR test for COVID-19, carried out by 72 hours before the trip and no longer 96 hours ( 4 days) as was the case.
Passengers must also continue to install a special mobile application on their phone. This enables them to be geolocated.
Foreign visitors must also undergo a second covid test. Until the result is known, they must quarantine themselves in a hotel or flat. If the test is positive, the tourist will be in self-isolation for at least ten days.
The number of cases of covid-19 has risen sharply in January in the United Arab Emirates, with the discovery of mutant strains from the United Kingdom and South Africa. The UAE had 207,800 positive cases and 669 deaths on 31 December 2020. By 29 January, this figure had risen to 293,052 cases and 819 deaths. This represents an increase of 41% and 22% respectively.
On Friday 29 January, the UK banned all travel from the USA. This decision prohibits the arrival of non-British citizens who have spent time in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, as well as transit passengers. Passengers flying to Australia are the worst affected: Emirates and Etihad have just announced the suspension of all their flights from London as well as from Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester.
