Mandarin Oriental and Marriott shake up Madrid's hotel industry
Two big names in the hotel industry have set their sights on Madrid: Mandarin Oriental, which has just taken up residence in the former Ritz, and Marriott, which is preparing to launch the JW Marriott brand on the Spanish market.

Housed in a legendary building - the Ritz was inaugurated in 1910 - and strategically located just a stone's throw from the Prado, the establishment has welcomed its first travellers since the 15 April. And it intends to establish itself as "the most luxurious hotel in town".

Le Mandarin Oriental Ritz now has 100 rooms and 53 suitesThe restaurant was designed by Parisian designers Gilles & Boissier. The gastronomic side of things has been entrusted to Quique Dacosta. The three-star chef has entirely supervised the new culinary offering, now embodied by five restaurants and bars. These include the Deessa, featuring local produce, the Palm Court under the glass roof, and a champagne bar.
As a luxury hotel, Mandarin Oriental has also equipped its Madrid address with particularly sophisticated wellness facilities. These include a heated indoor swimming pool, a vitality pool, massage services and a top-of-the-range fitness centre.
The Asian group is not the only one betting on the Spanish capital. A few days after the inauguration with great fanfare, Marriott has also unveiled its plans for Madrid. The JW Marriott brand will make its debut in Madrid - and more generally on the Spanish market - from next year. On 20 April, the the world's leading hotel groupwhich already has almost a hundred establishments in Spain (93), has unveiled plans for a 139-key establishment. It will be located in Plaza de Canalejas, in the heart of the capital.
The first JW Marriott hotel in Spain will open in Madrid in 2022.
