The airport of Nice-Côte d'Azur was linked before the covid pandemic to some 120 destinations in 44 countries in the world. It was also the airport - outside Paris - with the highest number of long-haul flights. The airport now hopes to quickly regain this status. Visit 2021 summer programme seems to support this recovery strategy.
11 new routes added to summer flight schedule. These include two new destinations, Menorca and Southampton. In total, more than 1,000 weekly flights will depart from the hub. This compares with 1,400 flights a week in summer 2019.
La France should continue to be the main attraction for travellers. It alone represents 18 destinations from Nice. Four new lines are even available: Brest and Nanteswith Transavia, Lille with Volotea and La Rochelle with easyJet.
In addition, 66 destinations to Europe are on the programme. Once again, there are a number of new destinations, including Wizz Air to Chisinau (in Moldova). Services to the UK are being expanded with Air France on London-Heathrow and British Airways to Southampton. Finally, Smartwings launches about Prague and easyJet to Minorca.
Return of the intercontinental
Outside Europe, Nice airport hopes to get at least two intercontinental routes back soon. The first verse New York with Delta Airlines flights to JFK and La Compagnie to Newark. The recent decision to re-authorise American travellers to the European Union should bolster the return of these two carriers. The second planned opening is that ofEmirates to DubaiOnce the restrictions on movement between the EU and the Emirates have been lifted.
