Air transport is no longer conceivable without respect for the environment.environment. Singapore Airlines is no exception to this rule: the group, which includes SIA, Scoot and SIA Cargo, has confirmed its commitment to achieve zero net carbon emissions by 2050reinforcing its long-standing strategy of commitment to decarbonisation and environmental sustainability across all its operations.

The airlines in the SIA group are therefore working on multiple objectives at different levels. These includeintegration of new-generation aircraft, higher operational efficiency, adoption of low-carbon technologies such as sustainable aviation fuels.

Other initiatives include the installation of solar panels on the company's office buildings and the introduction of a new concept for economy class meals on regional flights, served in recyclable and lighter materials. Food waste is now converted into energy pellets that can replace fossil fuels and coal.

The fleet plays an essential role in this environmental approach. New-generation aircraft can deliver up to 30% in additional fuel savings.

Including passengers in the environmental approach

The last flight in this process: voluntary carbon offsetting for passengers. Available since 25 June 2021, The programme enables SIA Group customers to offset their own emissions via dedicated microsites. Passengers can even use their miles from the KrisFlyer frequent flyer programme to offset their emissions.. The company will introduce this option in the fourth quarter.

The offsets are provided via the BlueHalo digital solution, developed by an Australian company. It allows passengers to calculate and immediately offset the emissions associated with their journey.. The carbon offset projects selected by the SIA Group include environmental and social initiatives in Asia, such as the protection of forests and communities in Indonesia, support for renewable solar energy projects in India, and the provision of efficient, clean cooking stoves for rural families in Nepal.

SIA and Scoot each have their own compensation site to be consulted on both carriers' booking websites.
