The French government has taken measures to restrict movements in the face of a new outbreak of Covid-19 cases in Guadeloupe, Martinique and La Réunion. A number of measures came into force on 30 July.
Guadeloupe
A la GuadeloupeA curfew has been in force since Friday 30 July. In response to the surge in cases, the curfew is being tightened on 4 August. A curfew is in force from 8pm to 6am. A driving licence is compulsory during the curfew period. The 10 km radius travel rule around the home applies to everyone from 5 August.
A passenger arriving from mainland France must:
– submit a virological screening test (PCR test) carried out less than 72 hours before boarding and not conclusive of covid-19 contamination, or an antigen test carried out less than 48 hours before boarding. The measure does not apply to people who have been duly vaccinated.
- if the traveller does not have a complete vaccination schedule, observe an isolation period of 7 days and carry out a new biological virological screening test following this isolation. Since 2 August, only travel for compelling reasons has been authorised.
Martinique
Visit Martinique, lhe curfew is in force between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.. Travel is also restricted to a radius of 10 kilometres.. A certificate is required for all journeys beyond this limit and after 7pm. Gatherings of more than 10 people remain prohibited on the public highway, with the exception of declared events.
If the hotels remain open, restaurants and bars are closed everywhere with the exception of takeaway sales or deliveries.
Travellers arriving in Martinique from France must :
- have a virological screening test (PCR test) carried out less than 72 hours before boarding that does not indicate contamination by covid-19, or an antigen test carried out less than 48 hours before boarding. ALL travellers must take this test.
- if he or she does not have a complete vaccination schedule, justify that his or her move is based on a a compelling personal or family reason, an urgent health reason or a professional reason that cannot be postponed. This rule also applies to journeys to Guadeloupe. A certificate of honour is also required.
La Réunion
The Indian Ocean island is undergoing a curfew similar to that of Martinique, with even stricter blackout times. A permanent lockdown is in place throughout the country. This will continue until Monday 16 August at 5.00am. Only travel within a 10km radius of home is permitted. The radius is reduced to 5km on Sundays. The curfew measures begin from 6pm to 5am every day throughout the country.
A certificate is required for travel during the curfew period and for all travel outside the 5/10 km perimeter.
Establishments open to the public may welcome customers until 6pm, subject to compliance with protocol. Only shops selling essential goods and services may remain open. Restaurants, bars and indoor sports halls are closed because they belong to the category of places where wearing a mask at all times cannot be guaranteed. Note that hotel restaurants may remain open only for resident guests..
On the other hand, cultural and religious venues remain open according to the health regulations in force.
For travel between France and the island, the rules have not changed since travel was made more flexible at the beginning of June 2021. The compelling reasons for travel are waived only for travellers who have been vaccinated (full vaccination schedule) in both directions. People who have not been vaccinated may only travel if there is a compelling reason to do so. A negative PCR test less than 72 hours old is still required for unvaccinated travellers.
