Italy's ITA orders its first Airbus

Italian carrier ITA, the successor to Alitalia, has just placed its first order for a new, more efficient fleet. And it's Airbus that has just won the bid.

The Italian company ITA is in the starting-block with its first flights scheduled for 15 October. And even before it takes off, the company has already confirmed an initial option to lease and acquire new aircraft.

ITA has signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus for 28 aircraft and with Air Lease Corporation for a further 31 aircraft.. The commitment to Airbus includes seven A220s and 11 A320neo Family aircraft, plus 10 A330neos. ITA's commitment to Air Lease Corporation includes 15 A220s, two A320neos, nine A321neos and five A330-900s.
