While the New air corridor for vaccinated travellers (VTL) begins between Singapore and Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur only) on 29 Novembercompanies Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have announced the reactivation of their code-sharing agreements between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
The agreement also covers 15 domestic points in Malaysia, 7 destinations in Europe and 2 cities in South Africa. In Europe, the agreement includes SIA flights from Barcelona, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Moscow, Munich, Rome and Zurich..
The introduction of the VTL (Vaccinated Travel Lane) corridor between Malaysia and Singapore means smoother journeys for customers by simplifying the conditions for entering both countries. It should boost traffic between the two countries. Since the corridor was announced, some flights have already reached a load factor of 100%!
17 flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur under VTL status
From 29 November, Singapore Airlines to operate 10 VTL return flights per week between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur using Airbus A350-900 aircraft. On his side, Malaysia Airlines to offer daily VTL flights from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore and back. The flight of just 60 minutes will be operated on board an Airbus A330-300. The Malaysian carrier will add a second daily VTL flight from 1 January 2022.
What's more, Singapore Airlines offers 11 weekly flights between the two cities but without VTL status. They are ideal for transit passengers, for example. Malaysia Airlines also offers five other daily flights outside VTL status. The carrier plans to offer 8 additional weekly flights on 1 February and one additional daily flight on 1 March.
The expansion of codeshare agreements is the first phase of a far-reaching commercial agreement that Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines signed in 2019. And which has hardly been able to develop due to the pandemic.
Within this agreement, the two airlines plan to coordinate flight schedules, offer joint fare products and align the KrisFlyer and Enrich frequent flyer programmes. The two carriers will also explore joint tourism marketing initiatives and multi-stop itineraries. These will enable passengers to travel to more destinations in Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Malaysia to reopen to international visitors by 1 January at the latest will enable this last part of the agreement to be applied.
