EasyJet and Virgin Atlantic have just announced that the online platform "Worldwide by easyJet now includes Manchester. It allows passengers of both airlines to benefit from connections on the North Atlantic. Customers travelling from Europe with easyJet will benefit from Virgin Atlantic flights from the UK airport.
This partnership makes it possible toincrease connecting opportunities, particularly on the very important US/Europe route. Before the Covid crisis, Manchester was the UK's leading airport outside London, with traffic of almost 24 million passengers a year. In particular, the platform was connected to numerous cities in North America, the Middle East, the Indian sub-continent and China.. Manchester should end 2021 with 5 million passengers. In 2020, the airport hit an all-time low with just 2.5 million passengers.
Thanks to Worldwide by Easyjet's Dohop technology, customers can easily make connections between easyJet and Virgin Atlantic flights in Manchester. Connecting destinations on the North Atlantic currently include Barbados, New York and Orlando. Other destinations could follow in the summer of 2022.
Manchester, 9th "Worldwide by Easyjet" airport
"Worldwide by Easyjet launched in September 2017, allowing customers to connect easyJet flights via London Gatwick to long-haul flights. The system offers more than 5,000 connections between its destinations and those of its partners. Over time, the system has integrated other connection platforms. These include Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Milan-Malpensa, Paris-CDG and Orly or Venice. A BerlinWorldwide is working with the DB network. This is the first time that a rail partner has been part of the "Worldwide by easyJet" platform. Manchester becomes the 9th airport to join the online platform.
The principle for "Worldwide" users is "auto-correspondence". Luggage is automatically routed to the final destination. But neither easyJet nor its partner pays for the passenger's connecting time. Travellers must integrate a "connection time" of 2 hours and 30 minutes on average. This gives passengers enough time to change flights and terminals. However, if a passenger misses a connecting flight, Worldwide by easyJet will transfer them to the next available flight.
EasyJet connects Manchester from six destinations in French-speaking Europe: Basel/Mulhouse, Bordeaux, Geneva, Lyon, Nice and Paris CDG.
