With the lifting of many travel restrictions linked to the pandemic, airlines return to profitabilityMunich airport this spring. For the IATA summer season, they will once again be offering more routes and connections between Europe and the rest of the world.
" We note that demand is currently rising sharply and we are forecasting significant growth in passenger numbers for the summer" says a delighted Jost Lammers, Managing Director of Munich Airport.
Lufthansa during the summer four additional Airbus A350 long-haul aircraft. Airbus' latest addition will increase the number of long-haul aircraft in the Bavarian capital to 26 during the summer season.
Lufthansa is thus resuming flights to San Diego and Washington in the United States, to Toronto in Canada and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. About Asia, the carrier is relaunching its services to Bangkok and Mumbai (Bombay). Lufthansa's long-haul leisure subsidiary, Eurowings Discover, serves three destinations from Munich: Las VegasPunta Cana and Cancun.
United States and the Gulf in the spotlight
United Airlines currently provides six daily flights to the United Statesincluding flights to Denver. This will be a first for the start from Munich. But also a reversal of trend. United will be offering one more destination than in summer 2019. American airlines American Airlines and Delta are also once again offering daily flights to Charlotte and Atlanta. Delta has also announced a service to Detroit starting in May.
We are also announcing the great return of Persian Gulf airlines to Munich. They will all be present. In the E.A.U, Emirates and Etihad will be competing, the first to Dubai, the second to Abu Dhabi. The return of Qatar Airways, Kuwait Airways and Oman Air to Muscat. As well as Saudi Arabian Airlines to Jeddah and Riyadh. Finally, on Asia, Thai Airways International after a two-year hiatus, resumes services on Bangkok.
Europe in holiday colours
A significant upturn in holiday traffic to European and North African destinations is expected. Lufthansa will offer 80 destinations, Eurowings Discover 25 and Condor 29 destinations from Munich. It should be noted that Lufthansa will be launching on Billund and Bergen in Scandinavia, whileAir Baltic will begin flights to Tampere in Finland, its new hub... In view of the expected influx of traffic, all the facilities at Terminal 2 are fully operational again. The IATA summer season will start on Sunday 27 March 2022. It will last until 29 October 2022.
