Austrian Federal Railways present their new Nightjets

The first trains should be running from Vienna and Munich to Rome, Venice and Milan. By 2025, 33 new-generation Nightjets will be in service in Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands and France. replacing a large proportion of existing trains.
The new-generation Nightjets will comprise seven wagons : two carriages will offer seating only; three will be equipped with couchettes. Finally, two others will be sleeping cars. The maximum total capacity per train is 254 seats. Each cabin will be better adapted to the needs of travellers, offering more privacy. Sleeper carriages will have only 4 seats per compartment, sleeper carriages a maximum of 2 seats.. The federal railways will also introduce "Mini-Cabin for individual travellers wishing to be left alone.
Sleeping cars will provide a more comfortable journey, with each compartment having its own toilet and shower. Fixed beds will also enhance sleeping comfort. The cabins will also be equipped with a seat for working, reading or eating.
The "Mini Cabins" will be individual berths in a sleeper car. In a compact space, they offer everything you need to travel at night with complete peace of mind. There's storage space, a sliding folding breakfast table with integrated mirror, hooks for clothes, a reading lamp and directly adjacent lockers for luggage. There is also a special area for loading bicycles and bulky luggage or sports accessories.
A host of technical innovations
Among the technical improvements, passengers will have access to free wifi in all travel cabins. At present, wifi is only available on the comfort sleeper cars of the Nightjets. An up-to-date passenger information system will be available throughout the journey.
The new Nightjets will also feature options for recharging electronic devices via USB and an inductive recharging station. New air-permeable windows mobile telephony improve network operation and ensure more stable mobile phone reception.
Finally, safety, each compartment can only be opened using an electronic card, as in a hotel. While all cars will be connected to video surveillance.
