This 141-room hotel has been designed to keep its environmental footprint to a minimum. Waste water is recovered and purified, saving 73,000 plastic bottles, 104 barrels of oil and 49 tonnes of CO2 per year. The green roof insulates the building by slowing the flow of rain. The plants even cool the air by evaporating the dew that settles on the leaves.
Nothing has been left to chance in the hotel's green approach: the staff uniforms are made from a material made from recycled plastic bottles, as is the aluminium used for the tables in the meeting rooms.
Guests can also help to protect the environment by choosing to travel around the city by bicycle rather than by car: Ritz-Carlton has set up a bike valet who will take care of reserving and maintaining the bicycles. For those who don't like to pedal, a taxi will be provided free of charge if they use a hybrid car.
