Air France-KLM is serious about its fight against global warming. Le Group Air France-KLM and its airlines are committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from aviation fuel by 30% per revenue/tonne/kilometre (RTK) by 2030 compared with 2019.
This ambition is in line with the decarbonisation trajectory of the Group's aviation activities, detailed in the "Destination Sustainability" strategy.
Against this backdrop, the Air France-KLM, Air France and KLM have submitted their targets for reducing CO₂ emissions. These have recently been approved by the SBTi objectives validation team.SBTi is a global organisation that enables companies to set ambitious emission reduction targets in line with the latest climate science. SBTi determined that the Group's target was in line with a trajectory well below 2°C, as determined by the Paris Agreement signed in 2015.
"Destination Sustainability
" The Group has developed a coherent approach as part of its sustainable development strategy: "Destination Sustainability. This environmental approach aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by relying on three main pillars. These are fleet renewal, sustainable aviation fuel, and operational measures. SBTi's approval of the targets is a key element in ensuring that the Group's decarbonisation strategy is implemented.Air France-KLM is consistent with its scientific aims" said Benjamin Smith, Group CEO Air France-KLM.
" Like all the companies in the Air France-KLM, Air France is fully committed to reducing its carbon footprint. This year it created a tailor-made strategy called Air France ACT. It is based on 4 pillars (fleet renewal, unanimous adoption of sustainable aviation fuels, development of ecopilotage and intermodal transport in collaboration with trains). The validation of SBTi confirms the impact of our decarbonisation strategy on the environmental transition of the aviation sector. We will continue to share our actions and results with our customers and the public." detailed Anne Rigail, CEO ofAir France.
" With Air France-KLM and Air FranceKLM has strong ambitions when it comes to making aviation more sustainable and balancing the development of our network with the environment. This requires major and fundamental decisions concerning our fleet, our operations and our fuel consumption.. The scientific targets and the associated CO2 emissions reduction trajectory bring clarity and at the same time represent major challenges. To make them achievable and possible, we are working closely with each other and with our industry partners to deliver technical solutions and innovations that support aviation's energy transition." added Marjan Rintel, CEO of KLM.
