The airport in the Bavarian capital, the second most important hub for the German airline Lufthansa, has seen an increase in the number of flights. its traffic jumped 153.2%. That's 19 million more passengers between 2021 and 2022. This good performance enabled Munich achieve a passenger volume of 31.6 millioncorresponding to two-thirds of the year 2019. Before the Covid crisis, the Bavarian operator had reached an all-time record with almost 48 million passengers.
The number of aircraft movements has almost doubled compared to 2021, reaching more than 285,000 take-offs and landings. Seat load factor on Munich flights equalled record 77.5 1Q3 2018. With a total of 210 destinations in 63 countries, the Lufthansa Group's hub has regained its global network, once again becoming one of Europe's most important hubs.

Traffic in 2022 surged from the summer onwards. In the first quarter, the airport recorded just four million passengers. But in the third quarter, the airport welcomed more than ten million passengers. Long-haul travel has even regained its pre-Covid momentum. Since July, traffic between Munich and destinations in the United States has exceeded 2019 levels. The upturn continued on other intercontinental destinations at the start of winter 2022/2023. The recovery is very strong on India, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand.
Lufthansa has already announced more flights for the summer from its Munich hub. At the end of April, the airline will launch three weekly flights to Bordeaux and a daily service to Rzeszów in southern Poland.
