The programme includes air-conditioning and heating work, but above all the renovation of spaces and the creation of new foyers and sub-committee rooms. Highlights include the Gabriel space and its 200-seat amphitheatre, the Garonne space and its four meeting rooms facing the river, and above all the Bourse space, a multifunctional, top-of-the-range events venue spread over 1,500 m2. According to the Chamber of Commerce, all these new features will enable the venue to take on a new dimension, "serving conferences with up to 200 participants, compared with 70 previously, and in incomparable conditions of comfort".
The new complex is due to open in September 2010, and should help boost Bordeaux's appeal on the events scene. This appeal has already been enhanced by the opening of the new Palais des Congrès, designed by Jean-Michel Wilmotte, at the end of 2003.
