London's fourth airport is often overlooked: Luton50 km north of the British capital. An airport that is far from marginal. In 2019, Luton flirted with the 18 million passenger mark and last year, thehe platform welcomed 13.1 million. This represents an increase of 186% compared with the 4.58 million passengers in 2021. Luton is served by around ten airlines offering flights to more than a hundred destinations.
On the Luton-France route, Easyjet dessert two or three times a day Paris CDGonce a day Lyon and 5 to 6 times a week Nice. There is also a twice-weekly link from Ryanair to Béziers as well as several winter season flights on Grenoble. They are operated by Easyjet, Ryanair and Wizz Air UK. Finally, Easyjet offers a real air bridge between Luton and Geneva with 5 to 6 flights a day.
Shorter journey times with DART
Opening the DART (Direct Air Rail Transit) from 10 March will make it easier to travel between London and the airport.This makes up for some of the unfavourable distance of 50 km to the north of the metropolis. Luton is also ideal for reaching major cities such as Sheffield and Bedford to the north.
The new service DART which will carry passengers between the terminal and the Luton Airport Parkway railway station, will operate in 4 minutes. It will reduce journey times between the airport and more than 60 stations on the Thameslink and East Midlands rail networks, including 22 stations in Greater London.
Passengers travelling to the terminal from London St Pancras will be able to reach Luton in 30 minutes.. It will take less than 40 minutes to reach the airport from London Bridge station. A train ticket costs around £20 and includes the DART transfer. This was not the case with the bus transfer, which cost £1.50.
