Some observers sometimes doubt the legitimacy of Skytrax's World Airport Awards. But this ranking, based on votes cast by passengers around the world, gives an idea of the evolution of service quality in airports and on airlines. On 15 March, the consultant published its list of the world's best airports.
The biggest surprise comes from Paris CDG becomes the 5th best airport in the world. Since 2022, the Paris hub has already held the title of best in Europe for the quality of its service. Now it is doing it again in 2023. Which just goes to show that the efforts made by Paris airports to bring the various CDG terminals up to the highest standards are bearing fruit.
The award for the world's best airport once again goes to in Singapore Changiwhich was replaced by Doha-Hamad International Airport in 2021 and 2022. Doha-Hamad International Airport came second. Singapore also won the award for best airport in Asia and best shopping offer.
Europe and Asia dominate the Skytrax 2023 ranking
The top 20 airports are mainly dominated by Europe and Asia. Europe triumphs with eight airports Paris CDG, Munich, Zurich and Madrid Bajaras are in the top 10, while Vienna, Helsinki, Rome Fiumicino and Copenhagen rank 11th to 14th respectively.
Amsterdam Schipholis paying a heavy price for these congestion problems in 2022. The airport has fallen from 15th to 29th place in one year. It falls behind London Heathrow (22nd) and Frankfurt (25th).
Another remarkable performance was that of Japan, the only country to have four airports in the top 20. Tokyo Haneda ranks as the 3rd best airport in the world. Its counterpart at Narita is ranked 9th, while Osaka Kansai and Nagoya Centrair are ranked 15th and 16th respectively. In total, the Asia-Pacific region has 7 airports ranked by Skytrax in the top 20.
Note that only two airports in the Middle East appear in the ranking of the best airports (Doha and Dubai in 17th position) on a par with North Americawhere only Seattle and Vancouver appear.
Finally, in French-speaking Europe, Orly now ranks 39th compared with 46th in 2022 and Lyon enters the top 100 in 98th position. However, there's no trace of Brussels or Geneva in this ranking!
