The thick smoke generated by the forest fires in Canada is slowing down or interrupting air traffic in certain parts of the north-eastern United States. The FAA noted reduced visibility due to the fog created by the lights.
By the afternoon of 7 June, the US FAA had already modified operations on the New York LaGuardia, Newark Liberty and Philadelphia international airports. "All flights into LaGuardia International Airport were halted and departures were slowed," the FAA said in a statement at 2pm yesterday. Philadelphia and Newark also experienced delays.
In the early afternoon French time on 8 June, thehe FAA again indicated a partial closure of Newark airport and slowed traffic to Philadelphia and Charlotte.. The FAA also announces possible delays at Newark, JFK, Baltimore-Washington and Washington Dulles. In Canada, Montreal and Ottawa are also affected.
Passengers are therefore advised to double-check their departure times.
