The decision was expected. Trenitalia announced its intention to operate 5 daily round trips between Paris and Lyon from 10 December next year, compared with three at present. This refocusing on this strategic axis had been planned since thelandslide in the Maurienne valley on 27 August interrupted services to Turin, the capital of Piedmont. This truncated service is expected to continue until next June, or even until the end of 2024.
More flexibility for day trips
The increase in the number of frequencies should delight the business customers by providing greater flexibility between the Gare de Lyon and the capital of the Gauls (see box). A specific business offer is still expected soon from the carrier. However, Trenitalia has not forgotten the leisure customers and especially mountain lovers, by allowing two return trips to be extended to Chambéry every weekend during the winter season, from 10 December 2023 to 21 April 2024. " This increase in load since the end of August on the Paris-Lyon route has been made possible by the fact that we have found a solution for maintaining the trainsets in a railway workshop near Paris, which avoids having to take them all the way back to Italy bypassing the Alps." explained to us last October Roberto Rinaudo, Chairman of Trenitalia France.
