With 9.5 million passengers in 2023, Milan Linate is one of the first major airports in Europe to become 100% biometric for passenger identity checks. In cooperation with French aeronautical equipment supplier Thales and Swiss security firm Dormakaba, the airport management company of Milan SEA has just introduced the FaceBoarding system. This enables passengers to pass through security checks and board their flight simply by facial recognition. This technology has also been developed with the approval of ENAC (the Italian civil aviation authority) and the Italian national police.
FaceBoarding is not compulsory. However, it has already been adopted by ITA Airways and SAS Scandinavian Airlines. The SEA believes that other airlines should rapidly adopt this procedure. A richer online application
For passengers, FaceBoarding is open by registration. This can be done immediately at one of the kiosks in the terminal or through the new mobile application Milan airports.
