Since the weekend, a number of airlines have decided to suspend services to and from Beirut and Tel Aviv in the face of rising tensions in the region. A sort of "replay" of what happened last October after the Hamas attack on Israel.
Air France-KLMwhich was due to resume flights to the Lebanese capital on 31 July, has announced that it is extending this date. suspended until Saturday 3 August. This suspension also includes routes operated by the low-cost subsidiary Transavia from Orly, Lyon, Marseille and Nice to Beirut. Middle East Airlines, on the other hand, continues to operate its routes to France and Europe in general.
From his side, the Lufthansa group has also announced the suspension of five routes to Lebanonoperated by Lufthansa, Eurowings and Swiss. The flights will not operate until 9 August. Please note that on 2 August, Royal Jordanian cancelled its two daily flights and Turkish Airlines its evening flight.
The company Emirates also indicated that it would no longer accept passengers in transit to Beirut until Friday evening.
Flights to Tel Aviv affected
The German carrier has also cancelled all its flights to Tel Aviv until the same date.. This decision also affects the frequencies of all its subsidiaries, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Swiss. It should also be noted that the Italian airline ITA Airwayswhich has been taken over by Lufthansa, is cancelling its daily flights between Rome and Tel Aviv. Finally, the Polish airline LOT is temporarily suspending services to both Beirut and Tel Aviv. WhileIberia and Air Europa are not offering any flights from Madrid to the Israeli capital until 7 August.
Tll flights operated by Israeli airlines El Al and Israir will be maintained, as will Air France frequencies..
On the flightradar24.com website, Beirut airport recorded a total of 15% of cancelled frequencies on 2 August. These include a daily Royal Jordanian service. However, the cancellation rate was lower than on 31 July (19%).
