Condor is one of Germany's leading airlines specialising in flights to holiday destinations. Founded in 1955 with Lufthansa holding 26%, the airline has its main base at Frankfurt airport. She has a wide range of flights to the Caribbean. But also to Africa, North America, Asia and the Middle East.
Until now, Condor has had an agreement with Lufthansa to transport passengers on its long-haul flights to Frankfurt from Europe and Germany. These pre-routings were offered at special rates. All this was shattered at the end of the year by the decision of the German Federal Court of Justice to no longer authorise these special fares. Condor will no longer be able to benefit from a quota of seats on many of Lufthansa's European routes, and will have to pay higher negotiated fares.
However, the company has announced that it is negotiating a new agreement with Lufthansa. An agreement on new conditions is therefore likely. According to some sources, 30% of Condor's long-haul passengers in Frankfurt use Lufthansa flights.
More short-haul flights
Nevertheless, Condor is beginning to make strategic changes. The company has decided to launch flights to several German and European cities.. Which will be used as a feeder to its long-haul routes.
From 30 March, Condor will offer daily flights between Frankfurt and Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Vienna and Zurich.. From 1 May, new lines will run once a day between Frankfurt to Milan Malpensa, Paris-CDG, Prague and Rome Fiumicino. The aircraft used will be Airbus A320neo or A321neo. The aircraft will each be based abroad, in order to avoid the prohibitive cost of aircraft parked in Germany. Other destinations could follow in the autumn.
The company has also decided to review its long-haul schedule. It eliminates the least popular destinations in North America. Flights to Halifax, Edmonton, Baltimore and Phoenix will disappear from the summer timetable.. Other routes will see their frequencies reduced. However, the airline will be adding new flights to Mauritius and Miami, while Bangkok and Johannesburg will be served all year round.
