As part of its expansion in Germany, the IHG group is to roll out a new extended-stay brand hitherto unknown in Europe: Candlewood Suites. Launched in 1995 by Jack DeBoer, one of the pioneers of the extended stay concept and the man behind Residence Inn by Marriott, the brand was taken over by IHG in 2004 and now has more than 520 establishments. Present in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the mid-range brand will take advantage of the extensive franchise agreement between IHG and Novum Hospitality to cross the Atlantic and make its debut in Germany, in Berlin.
Thanks to this partnership, the British group's network is in the process of doubling in size in Germany with the conversion of Novum brands to IHG banners, including the joint Holiday Inn - the niu brand. Prior to the launch of Candlewood Suites, this partnership also enabled the launch of another IHG brand in Europe, Garnerfrom hotels previously marketed under the Yggotel, Select Hotels and Novum Hotels brands.
As part of the long-stay brand, this movement is seeing the conversion of aparthotels to the Acora Living the City range. " As one of IHG's largest global franchise partners, we are proud to introduce Candlewood Suites in Germany, a brand that embodies comfort, functionality and a "home away from home" experience for our guests." said David Etmenan, CEO of Novum Hospitality. Business travellers will first be able to discover this functional hotel in Berlin, with the recent opening of the Candlewood Suites Berlin Charlottenburg, offering studios with kitchenettes, dining areas, double beds and flat-screen TVs, as well as laundry facilities, fitness facilities and a range of drinks and snacks to take away.
Five other establishments are expected this year in Augsburg, Fürth and Heidelberg, as well as near two major German airports, Düsseldorf and Berlin Brandenburg. " 13 more Candlewood Suites to open across Germany in the coming months" said Mario Maxeiner, Managing Director of IHG Northern Europe.
