On Thursday, the European Court of Justice ruled in favour of passengers, treating a return to the airport after take-off as a cancellation, with all the financial implications that implies. The European Court of Justice was called upon to rule in a case involving seven passengers and Air France. In September 2008, a technical problem forced one of the airline's aircraft to turn back to Paris shortly after take-off, forcing the passengers to transfer to another flight the following day. This unforeseen event could prove costly for airlines, which will be obliged to cover the various costs associated with this change in schedule.
