Tuesday At midday, traffic was interrupted on theMarseille Provence airport. The cause: a fire at Les Pennes-Mirabeau (13) which broke out in the morning, coupled with gusty winds. Take-offs and landings are currently suspended. L'Marseille airport stated on its website: " Due to a fire in Les Pennes Mirabeau, take-offs and landings are suspended until further notice. ". Travellers are advised to contact their airline for further information. An alert message has been sent to the public by text message, and residents of the 16th arrondissement of Marseille must remain indoors until further notice.
In the evening*, Marseille airport resumed operations. Air traffic was restored, and after a check-up at 9:30 am on Wednesday, it was decided to resume unrestricted operations immediately.
Le rail traffic was also affected by the fire. " Trains to and from Marseille heading north and west will be disrupted.due to a fire in the vicinity of the Estaque tracks", says the SNCF. However, it points out that Marseille St Charles station is not closed, and that regional train services to Nice-Vintimille and Aix-Ville will continue. However, SNCF Voyageurs' INOUI TGVs departing from Paris and bound for Marseille, Toulon and Nice will be cancelled. SNCF Voyageurs' INOUI TGVs departing from Paris and bound for Lyon, Nîmes, Montpellier and Perpignan are running.
As at Marignane, the return to normal operations remains uncertain for the railways: " The time at which traffic will resume is currently undetermined, SNCF Voyageurs invites passengers to postpone their journey and not to go to the station". SNCF also points out that all long-distance tickets can be cancelled and refunded.
The Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolitan Authority has also announced that several bus routes (L25/35/36/95/96/98) on the RTM network have been suspended. The A55 and A50 motorways are closed from the Florian interchange in the Aubagne-Marseille direction, as are the Vieux-Port, Major axe Sud/Nord and Prado Carénage tunnels.
