L'Orlyval gets his revenge, at least for a few days... Overshadowed by the extension of line 14the link between Orly and the RER is regaining its appeal for a week. That's right, line 14 is at a complete standstill from 4 to 8 August for network modernisation work. RATP has put in place a replacement shuttle, but its schedule is limited to journeys between Gare de Lyon and Olympiades.
To get to Orly, RATP recommends taking line 7 to Villejuif - Louis Aragon, then the T7. Or take the Orlyval:
So why are such changes being made - and such consequences for business travellers and many holidaymakers - barely a year after the inauguration of this revamped line 14? RATP explains: "Line 14 has passed a major milestone with the opening of the extension to Saint-Denis - Pleyel and Aéroport d'Orly. One of the conditions associated with this phase was the change of generation of its automatic train control system, a world first achieved with the Paris 2024 Games. However, the complete modernisation of line 14 and its control system still requires work and testing. These will enable additional functions of the new system to be tested in real-life conditions to make it even more efficient, and to improve the management of operating incidents. For technical and safety reasons, these tests have to be carried out outside passenger traffic, and therefore require interruptions. The final tests before the entry into service of a complete version of the train control system will be carried out over a period of 5 days, leading to the following interruptions Line 14 closed from 4 to 8 August inclusive. Line 14 will then be equipped with ever more efficient systems and innovative functionalities, to ensure the transport of one million passengers a day, expected with the connections of the Grand Paris Express lines", says RATP.
Line 14 is scheduled to reopen on Saturday 9 August, 5.30am.
