Turkish Airlines appears to be the latest airline to bid for a stake in Spanish carrier Air Europa. The Reuters press agency reported that during a conference call on financial results held on August 6, the company indicated that it was preparing an offer.

The main interest in the Spanish company lies in the complementarity of its network with that of Turkish Airlines. The Turkish carrier would benefit from a carrier with a very strong presence on the Iberian Peninsula, with 14 destinations in Spain and Portugal. But above all with a dense network in Latin America. Air Europa lands in 14 countries, linking Madrid to 20 destinations.
Among the most recent destinations in Latin America, Guayaquil and Quito in Ecuador benefit from three weekly frequencies each departing from Madrid.
At the start of the week, Lufthansa had announced that it was abandoning its plan to buy a stake in Air Europa. The German airline thus followed Air France-KLM. The group announced its withdrawal last week.
The process has been delayed, partly due to disagreements within the Hidalgo family, owners of Air Europa, who are concerned about the structure of the future agreement.
