
With the recovery in business travel and the good health of leisure tourism, the overall occupancy rate rose to 66.4% in the first half of the year, and the sector has held up well since the autumn. On the downside for travellers, average prices rose by almost 5% in 2*, 6% in 3* and almost 12% in 4*, with fewer discounts and promotions than in 2010. The unknown factor for 2012 remains. "The great strength of the French hotel industry is its domestic market, particularly in times of crisis," notes Stéphane Botz of KPMG.
