American Airlines pilots switch to iPad

A small revolution is underway in the cockpit: American Airlines has just obtained the green light from the American authorities to equip its pilots with iPad tablets, replacing the bulky paper documents used until now.

The boom in digital tablets is sparing no sector: before long, airline pilots should be turning to the iPad or its equivalents, with obvious advantages in terms of volume and handling. The federal government has just authorised American Airlines to launch this transition to digital technology, which has already been partially underway for several months. The company has already carried out a test phase with the tablet developed by Apple, and is now the first carrier in 1er plan to be able to use the equipment. The iPad replaces the numerous documents carried on each journey, such as flight manuals, which weigh around twenty kilos and consume unnecessary fuel.
