British Airways makes its takeover of BMI official

Lufthansa has officially sold BMI to British Airways, according to information released by the British carrier's parent company, IAG.

It will cost IAG more than 206 million euros to acquire BMI, and thus inherit the airline's coveted slots at Heathrow airport. It remains to be seen whether the competition authorities will approve the transaction, which has been contested by Virgin Atlantic in particular. The airline was also seeking to acquire BMI from Lufthansa.
