The agreement signed on Monday by the CFTC, CFDT, FO and Unsa unions still has to be ratified by the other airport security staff unions before the strike is finally over. Nevertheless, it does appear to mark the end of the disruption at French airports, even though the terms and conditions of the bonus obtained by the strikers are still to be negotiated at the start of 2012. Transport Minister Thierry Mariani had already indicated on Europe 1 on Tuesday morning that "all staff have returned to work". Faced with the government's demand to use the forces of law and order to replace security guards at the worst affected airports, the unions have finally given in on their main demand: a pay rise of 200 euros. Rennes airport stands out for its timing: security staff there launched an isolated strike on Tuesday, independent of the demands expressed at national level.
