The German railways Deutsche Bahn A new last-minute fare has been introduced, aimed at flexible travellers and those who change their mode of transport at the last minute. Thus, since 9 May, passengers have been able to book "Last Minute Saver" tickets on the main routes of the ICE network, with fares starting at just €6.99.
Michael Peterson, Passenger Director for Long-Distance Trains at DB (ICE and Intercity), explained that this new offer aims to provide "safe and affordable mobility" while attracting travellers who do not usually consider the train and whose travel plans are more flexible. This initiative comes amid existing tensions in fuel supply and soaring prices.
While the offer is primarily aimed at families and leisure travellers, it should also appeal to business travellers. Users of the BahnCard25 or BahnCard50 will benefit from the usual discounts on these new fares.
Tickets will be available for booking every Saturday and Sunday for trips made the following week on certain routes across Germany.
As with other reduced fares, availability will be limited according to remaining capacity and only on trains with seats still available, meaning that the best offers will mainly be accessible outside of peak hours.
The Deutsche Bahn has nevertheless specified that booking in advance remains the best way to obtain the lowest fares, thanks to its price search tool available on its official platforms.
